Level 2 Phonic All Star Flashcards-Spelling Variations

Spelling is not simple because many words just don’t follow the phonetic pattern rules.

This can be very frustrating for young learners who have just taken off their training wheels to be able to read real words and even tackle longer words when WHAM-BAM out of the page is a word that slugs them for a six and just doesn’t play by the rules.

As a teacher-parent-therapist we then dread the question coming up…but how come that word is spelled with an “a” when it clearly says “o”! Then we see their faces crash because these challenged learners have finally cracked the code and then we go and say…“Oh but that word doesn’t fit the rule!”

“WHAT!!!!! Then why spell it that way!” …we hear them cry before tossing the proverbial chessboard or exercise book and running to their bedroom.

When we look deeper into spelling patterns there is a pattern among the chaos of rule breaking and treachery. This is where the Level 2 Phonic All Star spelling variation cards are essential to crack the next level of our codes for our kids to continue to develop their spelling skills.
